How often should you change out the dessicant packets that is kept with your vials? I'm assuming put 1 or 2 packets in with the vials.

      I’ve read and follow this:

If it’s in a sealed container in freezer, not frequently opened 6-12 months

If it’s a sealed container frequently opened, 1-2 months

I have the 2g color change desiccant packs. 6 months in a sealed freezer thermal flask and in the fridge with just a lid and neither have changed color yet. The 2g is the right size to stuff in an open vial slot if you don’t have room on top.

@myb I had no idea there was such a thing for color change, obviously I didn't dig deep enough 🙂 This is good info, thanks. I also just read there are rechargeable desiccant packets.

@wisgal64 There’s only one type of desiccant that isn’t rechargeable, can’t remember its name right now. Theyre so cheap it’s not worth the time, effort, or power to dry them out.

@wisgal64 @kristal i was wrong. It’s the 2 gram ones. I freeze dry and have lots of sizes and just doubles checked the bag. Sorry about that. I will edit my posts above.

I got a the 5lb jug of the stuff off Amazon for like $18. I use the Hydrapeak 32oz like many here, 3d printed the vial holders for it, to include the dessiceant tray. Place the vial in the holders, stack in flask, fill the top most tray with the orange bead desiccant, close it up and place in freezer! Regardless of your storage method, if you place in a sealed container in a freezer it's highly recommended you allow it to get to room temp before opening. Condensation may effect the vials if they don't acclimate first.
