Starting and long term usage
-
Hello,
I’m getting ready to start my first cycle and have been looking into what others are running. Seeing other’s starting numbers has me curious if there is a general community consensus. I was originally planning to start at 0.5 mg, but now I’m considering bumping that up to 1 mg.I also have a few questions regarding the long-term: I read that the standard recommendation is to increase the dosage every 4 weeks to give the body time to adjust. At what point do you typically stop increasing the dose, and what is the absolute maximum safe limit?
Another thing that came to mind is what should I do if the appetite suppression doesn't kick in? If I'm not seeing results after the initial 4-week window, is it better to increase the dosage or pivot to a different peptide entirely?
Thanks!

I dont think you will find a consensus. Everyone's experience and preference is different.
Have you run anything before this? How much weight do you have to lose? How loud is your food noise?
When people talk about increasing every 4 weeks that's because that what was tested in trials and may have worked for them.
What worked for me was to find the lowest effective dose. One that would allow me to hit my protein and calorie target while losing 1 to 1.5 pounds per week. I only increased as was needed. Starting at .5mg every 3.5 days eventually up to 3.5mg every 3.5. Hit my goal and never had to go above that. -
Yep, lowest effective dose. The telehealth companies and your doctor is trying to get you titrated up to the maximum dose. You should be trying to get to the minimum effective dose.
Read as much as you can on the topic, see what recommended titration schedules are, and imo, only increase when you need to. I have been taking tirzepatide for about a year now. I got up to 10 mg for one week(month 4) and immediately started dropping back down. Was taking 2.5 mg for a while, and am at 6mg so I can lose about 5 more lbs. I adjust my dose slowly and as needed so I can eat enough and get my macros, while also maintaining a reasonable GI stability.
I am assuming you are lifting weights. If you aren’t you should be. While Reta is more protective of muscle than Sema and Tirz, if you aren’t exercising and getting protein, your body will eat muscle - that is just natural.
Finally, go slow, and make sure you recon and calculate dosing based on COA’s and not just what’s on the vial.

I see that you tagged this topic with glp3-r but justed wanted to confirm. Are you referring to reta?
I'm another believer in the lowest possible effective dose. I don't titrate up unless it stops being effective. Once you get to the highest does and your body gets used to it, you have nowhere to go, except for possibly a different glp1.

I would start at 0.5 mg for the first month, and increase by 0.5 mg until you reach a point where you can adhere to a calorie deficit without completely nuking your appetite. If food noise is a problem for you, I would recommend Tirzepatide instead of Reta. It is a lot better at reducing food noise in my experience.
Also, definitely go to the gym and lift weights. You WILL lose muscle if you don't.

The working out is a MUST. You will lose weight without working out but the quality of the weight won't be great. Meaning you will lose muscle along with fat and that is BAD! Especially as we age.

To be clear you don't increase the dosage because 4 weeks has gone by and your body is ready to increase dos... NO!
You increase once you've tried the lower dose for at least 4 weeks, allowed it to build in your system, but still notice food noise.
Continue to increase this way [4mg for 4 weeks, 6mg for 4 weeks...] until you find your dose strength needed and you STAY THERE!IF you reach the maximum dose strength [that is 12mg with Reta] and STILL notice food noise after 4 weeks of even that [we're talking 28 weeks of titration at this point] THEN it's time to consider Tirz.

I would not be going up 2mg when titrating each time. That's the clinicals titration rate. less is more, I would titrate up at .5 or 1mg no more than that. so you can see how your body reacts.
