Not only am I brand new to the gray market, I had never used crypto as well. I joined a few discords and observed for a bit.
Some groups have very detailed instructions on how to pay with crypto and people online who are very helpful.
If you put on your thinking cap and actually look at it.....it's not complicated at all.
Needless to say, I had to give it a go.
Monday I placed 2 orders with 2 different vendors.
Today(Thursday) I already received my order from Chimera peptides!!. My other order from a gray discord will be here tomorrow (Friday).
Positive experience for my first crypto/gray purchase 👍

This gives me hope 🙂 I'm an overthinker, and then procrastinate, then psych myself out and turn away from it. I really want to give this a try, as I believe I'm going to need a fairly large amount for my research, and I don't want to go broke lol

@WisGal64 once you take the steps...it's a breeze.
Going this route could help with some research that I thought would just be too much $ to justify (like ss-31 for example). It also helps with the "need" to fill up your freezer🤪

@nosaj would you be able recommend a clear resource or primer on getting started with crypto - I see references to cold wallets etc related to buying peptides so I want to set something up that is flexible for that purpose.

Most discords or sites will have detailed instructions for the type of payment they accept.
              Here's how I do it:
Open a Robinhood account and link to debit card.
Download exodus to use as your crypto "wallet"
Purchase crypto(BTC, USDC, ....etc) on Robinhood.
Send crypto to yourself on exodus.
Send from Exodus to vendor's wallet.
Just need to determine their wallet.....they will tell you to send on ethereum network, bitcoin, or similar.
Screenshot your "tix id" for the transaction # and send in email as proof.

              It's relatively quick and easy.

@nosaj do they still make you wait 10 days before you can send out a significant amount of eth after kyc? I know coinbase does.

What do most ppl use? I saw coin base as a good place to start for beginners, but then saw the complaints about having a waiting period, and in some cases have to show more proof of ID if there were name changes in your past? I've seen posts about using Exodus directly to buy crytpo. Any thoughts?

I used zelle on 2 different sites that didnt have crypto for a discount. with 1 I had no problem, the other, the bank called me regarding potential fraud. They were aware the recipient was selling "non fda approved supplements" and believed I was going to get scammed (prob just their way of saying we dont want to be involved in this business).

So crypto definitely should be the way to go if you want to stay as low radar as possible.

@marcoxd I'm not a big fan of the P2P, but zelle especially, I spoke with someone at my bank who I knew pretty well, and asked them about purchasing research products and she said "don't do it, it'll definitely get flagged" she wouldn't go any into any further detail. I appreciated her honesty

Might be better to just do fiat to crypto on-ramp directly using something like MoonPay. Their transaction charges are a tad bit more but unless you regularly transact in crypto just for peppers it gives an easy way to do PayPal/Debit to vendor wallet transfer.

                            My 2 cents.

                              Exactly!

So many RUO vendors nowadays default to Zelle the moment their payment processor dumps them. Seems lazy on their part to not have other backups like CashApp or crypto, and push Zelle on everyone.

Customer accounts getting flagged is exactly the reason I don't use Zelle or ACH for peppers at all. If a vendor has only Zelle I move on. Plus it's a big fat privacy and security hole.

One RUO vendor (not naming names) had a website malware issue a few months ago and people had their personal info and CCs breached left and right.

@WisGal64 The main difference is custodial vs self hosted wallets.

Custodial like Robinhood or Coinbase hold your private keys with them and can block you and freeze your funds if they suspect some weird activity.

Self hosted like Exodus, Trust, MoonPay etc you have your own private keys and they can't block your funds. They might make it difficult to do off-ramping but you still hold your crypto regardless.
