Right now, most of us rely on HPLC and LC-MS testing. Those tests are very important—they tell us how pure the peptide is and confirm it’s the correct peptide based on its molecular weight.
But they don’t guarantee that the peptide will actually bind to its receptor and produce the expected biological effect.
Think of it like a key. It can be made from the right material and have the right weight, but if the shape is even slightly off, it may not fit the lock.
The only way to know whether a peptide actually activates its target receptor is through functional (cell-based) testing or specialized structural testing.
I’m not saying the peptides we’re using don’t work. I just think it would be interesting to see a few batches tested beyond the standard HPLC and LC-MS so we have a better idea of what we’re actually getting.
