I do feel as if I have body dysmorphia issues.

I think that many of us - I will boldly assert most of us (not you, narcissists!) - have some degree of body dysmorphia, imposter syndrome, or just generally that voice in our head telling us we are a …. But I digress.

Throughout my life, no matter how fit I have been, I have thought I look fat, no matter how well everything was going, I thought I was a failure. I once had a convo with my best friend from childhood, as we sat in his 27th floor office, about how we often felt like our Dads were going to walk in and tell us play time was over and they needed to get back to work. 😉 At that time, he was managing 50+ people and I was flying to London to launch hedge funds. (Which did not, in fact, make me fabulously wealthy.)

Studies show that over 90% of successful people have imposter syndrome. I think some degree of these hobgoblins is healthy, as it can motivate you to improve yourself. But some people indulge it, or it gets out of control, and that is when bad things can happen. Also, people in the throes of these afflictions simply refuse to believe that other people also have it, and that they are not alone.

And yes, this is another rabbit hole I spend probably way too much of my time focusing on.

Anyway, you’re doing great! Keep up the good work. Have a Ho-Ho or an Oreo once in a while. 😉

In closing: (Randy Savage voice) Get after those gains, Brother!

Completely agree with this post. I have started to think about it this way. My hardware is set. It was set as a child. No upgrade coming. Inner dialogue is what it is. You're fat. No one loves you. You're not good enough.

Over the years through hard work in and out of the gym. Self help groups. Podcasts. I know this isnt true. My software has been upgraded. That voice is there. I hear it less often and its quieter.

I've lost almost 200 pounds. I'm skinnier and in better shape than most of my friends yet I still think Im fat. Sometimes I just laugh, say STFU and hit the gym.

Stay the course my friends. The future you will be grateful you did.

@shaqdiesel I have goals now so that voice is just not productive anymore. I would never let someone speak to me the way my inner dialogue does. Just like other goals you get better with practice and consistency. Proof helps too. I always said I was lazy. I have proven this to not be true by how hard I work on all aspects of my life. So if I hear that I will actually say out loud that may have been true in the past but not now.
Be kind to yourself. It all sounds so corny as Im typing it but it has really worked to help me deal with the circus in my head.

@mydogdaryl423 I was listening to Chris Williamson Monday and one of the things they were talking about was exercises where men write the things they say to themselves in their head and then pair up and say it to someone else. Much of it is stuff we can’t bring ourselves to say to other people.

In my case, proving that voice wrong has been a winning strategy; it just would have been nice if someone told me 45 years earlier that everyone has it, that you can curate what it says to you, and that it is a liar.

Interesting rabbit hole is the biological/evolutionary basis for why these thoughts exist and the purpose they serve from a tribal belonging and survival perspective.

I used to say things like I wish some one had told me this or why didn't someone step in then. Last couple of years I realized they did. I wasnt listening and was too hard headed. Needed to crash and burn. Needed pain to force me to change.

            Love Chris Williamson.

@mydogdaryl423 Another big one I’ve been hitting on recently: Everything is going to work out fine. Everybody is freaking out about this or that or the other thing. Fix the shit you can fix. Handle your own problems. Don’t be a dick to everybody all the time. When things get better, you’ll be in good shape. I know so many people who spend all their time doom-scrolling and convincing themselves the world is ending, and in person, they’re kind of shit to be around.

Another human foible is that we think the time we live in is momentous and critical to world events, and any mis-step will doom us all. That is just self-importance. We’re all specks of dust in the universe, special and unique, but gone in an instant. In 100 years, no one will remember us, or the idiots we obsess about. One person might get a line in a history book.

Now, you might not be around when things get better; but they will get better. No need to make it worse for everyone while we work on it.

                Amen.
Ironic how we love to always rank each other. We are all so far down the food chain that, in the grand scheme of things, the space between the greatest and least of us is microscopic.

I've now been on compounded Tirzepatide through a Telehealth company for about 10 months now, and it has completely changed my life. My SW: 332 lbs, CW: 244.6 lbs and my goal weight is between 200-215 lbs. I'm so grateful for these meds and what it's done for me especially how I viewed food.

@mrjoshua44 Congratulations on all the progress! I think the long-term benefit will be in the change in how you "viewed food." Keep up all the great work! And Roll Tide! Although they made some critical mistakes yesterday against Georgia 😞

@keshave786 I like the access I have with my nutritionist and doc. At some point I will and will make the switch over to Reta.

Way to go!! You look amazing. These meds really are life changing. I am in a similar place. One week away from when I started out on them. I have lost almost 70 in 10 months after struggling to lose 30ish over a 3 year period. I am now down 102lbs and believe I can keep going to lose another 40 or so.

                            Keep up the great work!
