So I have a couple questions as someone whos new to pens. I see the V4 Ultra seems to be the top pick here. So with that here's my questions
- where do you get the needles for it?
- can I prefill cartridges and just switch them out in the same pen when I want to use different peptides or do I need a whole different pen? Do the extra cartridges have caps for this to be possible?
- do you store the whole pen in the fridge between uses?
- is a pen cheaper than disposal syringes in the long run?
Thank you in advance!!

You need to buy pen tip needles. You can find them on amazon. I personally prefer 31gauge 5mm needle tips. A good cheap brand on amazon is Glucocare.
-
Yes you can prefill cartridges and switch them out when the one you are using is done. Remember cartridges should not be reused. Should be thrown away when done. I usually get my cartridges ready a day or 2 before I run out of the current cartridge. No you do not need a new pen. They are reusable. When cartridge is done, take it out of the pen and put your new one in. And yes you can buy 3d printed caps, or print your own if you have a 3d printer, to put on top of the cartridges that you are storing. I store mine with a cap, in a case in the fridge.
-
Yes I store all my pens in the fridge that have peptides in them. Take them out when its time to inject and put them right back in the fridge when I am done injecting myself.
-
No not cheaper, but so so much more convienent if you are dosing daily and multiple peptides. Right now I am on 8 injectable peptides. 5 in the morning and 3 in the night. All are in pens. It would be so annoying to use disposable insulin needles to draw out however may units I need for each peptide. With the pens I am done in a few minutes. Just turn the pen to however many units I need, inject myself and dispose of the pen needle tip and put the pen back in the fridge. I can't stress how much more convenient it is. If I was only dosing something like RETA once a week and nothing else, then I probably wouldn't bother with a pen.
Edit: If money is no concern, go with the Gansulin pens. If money is a concern, I think I also prefer the v3 Ultra over the v4.
-
Anyone ever lube the mechanism of their pens? We only get about 300 cycles out of them. And the silicone coating on internals is very thin and exposed to condensate every time they are taken out of the fridge. Replacements will get expensive.
I am considering spraying some swim goggle lube into a Xulin to see if the action becomes smoother.
-
@dispensarysupport Gansolin is the goat but expensive. The v3 ultra is the best for the money. Convi Pens are good until they aren’t after months of use they will start acting up. I really like the plastique as well but the top spins so you have to keep your finger centered but they have a nice feel as well. The Novos have the nicest feel but you need an adapter and they break and ruin the pen and have accuracy issues. @commander has created a new adapter to 3d print that may solve that

I just ordered a 3 ultra and a 3.5 yesterday, and check the tracking number this morning an they were at my local post office already, super fast shipping

Here is my 'collection'
As you can tell, I was a big Gansulin fan at first but in my experience they start to go funky after a while. The auto mechanism seems to slip and I have found that the accuracy is not great on them. I don't use them anymore, but I can't bring myself to throw them out.
I test all of my pens on a Milligram scale for dosing accuracy and the Lilly pens are consistently the best with the Exception of the Luxura...which seems to be their least accurate pen of the ones I have tried (Luxura, HumaPen Ergo 2, HumaPen Savvio).
I am based out of Canada and the pharmacies here give the Savvio pens away for free when you use Eli-Lilly insulin.....I don't buy insulin, but there is a small pharmacy that sells the Savvio pens on Amazon for about $28 USD ($40 CAD). That's why I have so many of the Savvio's (top row, Red and Grey pens). They are cost effective and they are consistently dead on accurate with dosing. They don't have any clicks, so its just a silky smooth . If you like little clicky sounds the Savvio is not for you. I also like that the Savvio's have a metal push rod on them. The Ergo 2's (top row, left side) are nice as well if you like that clicky sound and feel.
I have a couple of AliExpress pens featured in the lower row. The big white one feels like a cheap piece of crap.....but it is surprisingly accurate. I don't like to use it because it just feels gross. The light blue one in the lower row with the Thymasin Label on it is an excellent Manual pen off of Ali Express. I threw out one of the Ali Express pens because it was so bad.
Also got a couple of Amazon pens (Gold and Black on the lower row, left side). They feel ok'ish. Not super accurate but useable if I'm in a pinch.
I have Randy's Xulin Pen 3 (Bottom Row, Red Pen on the right)which has the sweetest feeling click mechanism of the bunch. I can see why it is one of his favourites.

I have 2 savvio as well and think they are great. I wish they came in different colors.
I’m also starting to feel the same way about my Gansulin/convi as they do seem to stick a bit. I’ve been thinking it’s because they are cold and I inject immediately after taking it out of the fridge, but maybe that’s not really the reason why.

@denti I too have noticed that if the Gansulin is right out of the fridge, it seems to get hung up. But after a bit outside the fridge, works just fine. Don't think they like the cold.

@mrjoshua44 - I think it might worth trying one of them. I know DaroPep carries them.
They are unique pens in so far as there is no clicking sound when pressing down on the plunger. I imagine some people won't be fan of that.
ALSO
I think the metal push rod is useful if you plan to move more viscous liquids through a needle.

Don’t know if it matters, but I use a small fridge for peptide pens only and put it ton of desiccant packs in there as well.

@mrjoshua44 Absolutely my favorite pens! I get 2packs from Overthebordermeds for a total of about 70 USD. No option to select color, but you could call and ask.

@Randy it seems we make this Pen situation so hard . I have tried most all of them and I keep coming back to the V3 Ultra its the best pen for the money. The Novo, Huma, Savvio all have issues because they weren’t made for this purpose. There are a nice novelty at first and then not so much. Just my opinion. Don’t get me started on the gansupen and convipen that after a couple of months start acting up. Keep in mind I don’t believe any of these were made for daily use either

@Stevepep - can you elaborate on what you think the differences are between the intended purposes of a pen like the Savvio (insulin injections) vs Research Dosing.
Up to now, I find the Savvio pens to be fairly resilient and still very accurate as far as dosing is concerned.
I'm with you on the auto pens... in my experience they just don't hold up. Might be ok for once a week researching but not worth the extra $

I find the auto pens like Gansulin and Convi so easy to use when injecting into my glutes. Using V3 Ultra or V4 or even the Savvio I sometimes have issues pressing the button down as you have to get it dead on in the center.
Also the one feature that I hate the other pens lack that Gansulin/Convi has is you can't dial more then what's left in the cartridge.
