A red light therapy joint opened up nearby me. I've seen these before but never really went down the rabbit hole.

    Who's tried it? Thoughts?

I'll chime in. I have a tabletop panel and something handheld called the Ironforge by Chroma. The panel is meh- never really noticed much after using 3-5x a week for several weeks- takes forever to get a decent dose (learn J/cm2) The handheld unit is a beast and works well for sore spots- knees, neck, back, etc. I credit it with helping me quickly recover from a small rotator cuff tear. It's the size of a brick and has 2 fans on the back to dissipate heat. Not a toy! You will quickly feel surface and deep warmth and the light literally will penetrate through your hand. Never tried a bed but I suspect that's the special sauce for overall well being. Treat yourself after taking methylene blue- it's supposed to potentiate favorable mitochondrial effects. Like peps it's about your end goal. I feel mostly great most of the time. I hate being sore and just need something to tackle the aches and pains.

I’ve worshipped at the church of red light therapy for about 7 years. I have a small hard panel, full body hard panel, a half dozen flex panels, an inexpensive but effective hand held device, and I have a cold laser wand.
My cheap but effective light for spot treating is this amazon.com/dp/B08DTLM7JY
Have had since 2020 and still going. Soft tissue 15 mins, bone 30 minutes. Pair it with a hand held socket cord like this amazon.com/dp/B09NLX9YTM
The absolute best flex panel I have is this but unfortunately is no longer available. amazon.com/dp/B0CQ4Y7655
edit* I found the belt, same device different name amazon.com/dp/B0CS37972S

@Randy It works, but buy your own for home use. There are full body panels out there and plenty of YT reviews. The Hooga's are pretty cool and thats what I have.

@gym.rat yes, Hooga! All of my hard panels are Hooga. They are the very original versions but they serve me so well I have never thought about upgrading to the newer hyped multi wave panels. My original two wave panels are work horses.

              @Randy
First, I want to apologize in advance for the following wall of text! I have gone through so many therapies to help my daughter with her neurological issues and we currently still use red light therapy. She is the reason I started research peptides as well.

A little background on her is probably helpful here. At birth, she had a stroke in the left basal ganglia area of her brain followed by a hypoglycemic episode that left her extremely disabled afterwards. For nearly 3 years following her birth, she was in what is called a waking coma also called unresponsive wakefulness syndrome, which is a condition where a person appears awake, with sleep-wake cycles, but lacks conscious awareness of themselves or their surroundings. She met none of the developmental milestones of course. Through lots of treatments, therapies, perseverance, and just plain stubbornness on my part to refuse to accept the doctors’ claims that she would never get better, slowly but surely, she began to improve. Things we take for granted with our other kids were miracles. She was able to sit unassisted for the first time at 3 years old, learned to chew food at 3 and a half, and at age 5 despite doctors telling me it would never happen, she was able to walk unassisted for the first time. It was a slow journey but she was getting better and gaining skills every day & I finally had hope for full recovery.

But then at age 12, it all fell apart and doctors didn't have a clue what was going on. Basically she suddenly switched like overnight. She regressed in all the skills she had gained and get progressively worse as the years passed with no diagnosis. Finally at age 22, after years of doctors and several scary hospitalizations, they figured it out - autoimmune encephalitis. I wont overload you with the horrible symptoms but it is described to be like your brain is on fire. Once they started her on the proper treatment including IVIG, her symptoms slowly began to improve. But having had this going on so long, she has sustained a lot of damage to her brain from the constant inflammation. Although she was worlds better in so many ways, she still was nonverbal, has sensory issues, nystagmus, tremors, seizures, anxiety, and motor & autonomic dysfunction. Trying to restart communication, physical and occupational therapies has been a real struggle. It felt like even though she wanted to participate, her brain would not or could not cooperate.

I heard about brain laser therapy, sometimes called red light therapy, as a promising treatment and was at first pretty skeptical. How can shining a red light on your head fix your brain?? I ordered a medical book by Dr Michael Hamblin, who is considered the world's the most documented authority on the subject.
              book

Research studies show it is helpful for a ton of other issues too. After reading it and also thoroughly looking into tons of research studies on it, I decided this might be worth trying for her.

So what is it? The medical term is PBM or photobiomodulation, a non-invasive technique that uses low-level light therapy (specifically near-infrared light) to modulate mitochondrial activity, boosting energy (ATP) production and reducing inflammation. This process accelerates tissue repair and relieves pain. It can also potentially improve cognitive function or treat certain neurological conditions. My biggest problem was that I had no idea where to buy a reputable device. For the brain specifically, it is called tPBM or transcranial photobiomodulation. I learned early on in my studies that not all red light devices are not able to penetrate the skull to address brain inflammation adequately. For a device to be effective, it has to have the correct, energy fluence (total energy delivered per unit area, measured in Joules per square centimeter (J/cm²). It also requires specific irradiance which is the power density Irradiance is the power of the light source per unit area, measured in milliwatts per square centimeter (mW/cm²). It must also have the right pulse frequency which is important for safe treatment of the brain because it minimizes the heating effect while increasing the possible penetration depth. And lastly, the correct NIR wavelength is crucial to deliver real results.

There are tons of so-called 'red light' devices sold almost everywhere but many of those are not medical grade devices and from my research, none seemed to have the adequate power to penetrate the skull or even the correct near-infrared (NIR) frequency bands necessary for successful treatment. I looked into all types of different treatments from cold laser therapy but many of those devices were for physicians only and also cost over $8,000 for a single wavelength device. Alternatively, treatment by a doctor was extremely expensive not to mention there are no doctors within 4 hours of us that even offer anything like that. The red light devices from Amazon and other places seemed questionable to me. I had no way of knowing (short of learning how to test electrical currents and light frequencies) if any of these were legitimate devices or just a regular light with a red lens. I looked and researched for several months.

I ultimately went with a company called Vielight founded by another leading doctor in the field of tPBM, whose devices had been used in several of the research studies I had read and after going through their site and studies, I decided to purchase one of their products. I bought Neuro Duo 4 which has alpha and gamma wave settings. I have only used the alpha setting with her so far but went for the duo one just because of the extent of her issues. She has only been using the device for less than two months but the results so far have been amazing. We have started out slowly as recommended and are currently at 3 twenty minute sessions a week using an alpha wave setting. Her tremors & seizures have stopped and her headaches seem to be gone as well. Her focus has improved tremendously and she is now learning to use a keyboard and tablet to learn to type to talk. Her sensory issues and anxiety have also improved. The changes are night and day, truly. The company has done several studies themselves as well that are listed on their site. They also offer really good support and are quick to respond if you have questions. On my last call with them I mentioned, I was in several groups with lots of kids with the same issues and they even gave me a 10% discount code for me and to share on any of their stuff. They also offered a refund policy, you can try the product for 6 months and if their devices do not help, you can return it for an 80% refund. That impressed me considering how much money I had wasted n stuff that didn't help at all. Needless to say, I didn't return it. I really think it is the missing link for a lot people. The most important issue is making sure you get a device that has the right light frequency/ power & wavelengths for your condition. Here is a pic of her device :

I have the Fenagli knee braces but is multi body use. So far I’m not impressed. Been using them daily since end of April, will give it some more time as I’ve read it can take up to a couple months. Friend has a bed at home and swears by it, wish she lived closer so I could give it a try.

To jump on @brithus direction of travel… if you want to jump down the rabbit hole for treating the brain for traumatic brain injury and for the treatment and prevention of brain related diseases go to this FB group https://m.facebook.com/groups/334049440491954/?ref=share. Once joined, look up the name Scot Faulkner.
There are many directions red light therapy rabbit holes can bring you. If you’re looking at skin benefits, repairing mitochondria and the production of ATP then you’ll want to research led panels, even tanning beds that have been retrofitted to be red light therapy. If you’re looking for treatment of 1-3cm depth areas you start looking at pulse width modulation devices (like the belt I posted in my comment above). If you want past the bone for spinal cord and brain look at lasers. My word of advice is know your shit before moving to lasers. The laser devices can be found on Amazon as hand held wands sold for pets, they are technically a medical device and why they are sold as pet devices on Amazon. Cold lasers can still heat cells to death so use pulse mode on the pet lasers unless you have an expert knowledge base. If you have pocket money jump into the device that brithus has. I know they were $2K years ago when they were looking for research participants. I have not been down that rabbit hole in 5 years so don’t know what they go for these days.

If you’re looking for skin and ATP/mito… check out your local planet fitness. Most have red light therapy stand up booths. It’s the cheapest way to start. Much cheaper than red light therapy “clinics”.
If anyplace has the retrofitted tanning booths ask them how many hours the current lamps have on them, because just like tanning lights they are only good for so many hours. If they “don’t know”, turn around and walk away.

My background. I have a 19 year old spinal cord injury from impingement. The first five years I couldn’t walk unassisted. The next 5 years I was able to walk and work some with high doses of opioids. When the fake war on opioids entered mainstream, my drugs were pulled cold Turkey and I was cast away by the medical system.
Red light therapy gave me my life back over a five year period as I stepped up treatment for led panels, to pulse width devices, to lasers. I’m currently researching peptides to get a little more quality due to aging natural decline.

Scott originally was making custom panels at home to meet people’s specific requirements. He was also a walking encyclopedia on RLT. Any who, looked him up to point him towards Randy and it looks like he’s turned his quest of helping people into a business, and that’s how I found his playlist.

@stan-douglas if alls you’re wanting to do is stress the cells, yes they are the same.
I have a hot tub that goes to a 110°. Use to do 40 minutes soaks at 107°.
Yes you can use a hot tub, yes you can use a sauna, but both take up a lot of room and cost thousands of dollars. You can also hang a body panel on the back of your bathroom door for under $1,000 and give yourself a treatment in a few minutes everyday before you shower.
The hot tub and sauna doesn’t have the same antiaging effects on the skin as RLT. RLT does more than stress cells like thermotherapy. Like peptides, it’s a very deep rabbit hole that was ignored for too long.

I have a small panel I use a few times a week. I think it helps some. A friend bought one for his GF and it helped with her SAD tremendously at the end of winter.

A bit of an aside, but Huberman was on Chris Williamson’s podcast recently talking about getting exposure to sunlight, and while he did mention red light therapy, he was talking about how most people need way more sunlight than they get and while you should use sunscreen, basically the more light exposure you get the better it is by virtually every measure of health.

I've made myself a red-light therapy place myself. I've bought 250w red incandescent bulbs ($10) and reflectors with pinch ($10). Hooked them to wire shelves ($30), put them around a swivel chair. Now I have 6 bulbs around me, emitting full spectrum red and near-infrared light. It serves like RLT and IR sauna to an extent. I believe it helped to restore my vision significantly.

@brithus Many blessings and kudos for what you've gone through and what you're doing. You're a wonderful parent!

                                      Y'ALL CONVERTED ME!

After this post I bought the shoulder pad a few days ago. It's not big enough to do both shoulders at once as pictured but I tried it one at a time and, wow, it made a difference!

AI says the best timing is post workout pre-shower and I've been doing my shoulders, hips, AND knees... I need a red light bathrobe!

@sable-darqness Don’t take this personally; my bride refuses to acknowledge any benefits at all from all the stuff she has been researching and yet she keeps researching it. And it isn’t just peptides. It’s red light, minoxidil, HRT, etc.

I think she needs another cat to get her out of her slump but she has promised violence if that happens. 😉

Please set a funny and sarcastic signature line. It brings me joy. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
